The current Electrical Installation Regulations were last updated in 2009, with a clarification document released in 2012. That was over 13 years ago, and since then, no further updates or amendments have been made. Consequently, these regulations are now outdated; both in terms of how the electrical sector operates today and how the regulations align with current economic and practical realities.
In 2022, AREP initiated a process to review and propose updates to the regulations, including two meetings with the Department of Labour. However, progress stalled due to uncertainty around the role and responsibilities of the Single Phase Tester.
With the recent written confirmation from the Chief Inspector that Single Phase Testers are permitted to issue Certificates of Compliance (C.o.C.) for solar PV installations, AREP is resuming this critical initiative.
If you're an AREP member or an industry professional with insights, concerns, or proposed amendments, we invite you to join the conversation. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of the Electrical Installation Regulations.
