Technically, you are an employee of the cc.
There is an upside to being on cover - if there is an accident and you require expensive medical attention, you will be covered. The obvious challenge in the one person business is the minimum per annum cost.
Much easier to deal with.
Prompt.
Responsive.
Actually pay out no claim and low claim ratio rebates.
Actually do pay time-off-work-for-IOD wages.
All things that don't happen with the government scheme.
Participation is voluntary.

We also changed across to FEM many years ago and the service is equivalent to a good medical aid when it comes to IOD
I know of a contractor that had a car accident on the way back from seeing a client on a call out one evening and he claimed IOD - Everything was covered
You will also get your good standing letter within a week vs a year if you lucky
To make a mistake is human, to learn from that mistake is knowledge and knowledge is strength.
Are you using the FEM on line portal - https://roe.fem.co.za/ - there should be Electrical Contractor E03
I'm in the same situation as Leecat I'm a CC and one man business. Last year I done my registration through DOL without any issues, This year different story, sent all my documents through to DOL except COID and UIF which I don't have and they replied without any message they just mailed back the renewal form. ( So what does that mean) So I think it's because I don't have COID and UIF. What is my options here?
Is it better to close the CC and start trading as a sole proprieter to be allowed to be a electrical contractor and trade as a one man business, What is the options here to trade as a one-man business and be registered as electrical contractor or are they closing us one-mans down?
I've always been a one man business, no problem. I'll see in January when I renew, what happens. The lady that used to be very helpfull in East London DOL has left and I have heard from other electricians trying to renew that there were problems.
I always go in personally to renew. This time I'll take some chocolates and flowers with. That usually works wonders.
