    There are numerous MSDS sheets for the different Li-ion batteries on the market that have water based under fire fighting measures .
    Surely they are not going to put that down in a MSDS sheet if it is a dangerous way to go about it

    As I understand it, not all "lithium" batteries consist of the same chemistry, and they have differing hazard potentials as a result.

    The 125kWh BESS example was particularly enlightening. All said, it was arguably far less dramatic than one might have expected for that amount of battery energy storage - particularly if you compare that to the preceding examples of cell phones, e-cigarettes, etc.
    The chemistry and technology of the battery system does make a significant difference to its hazard.
