Compulsive Upgrade Disorder - It got me again

Does anybody else suffer from CUD? My business partner and I just forked out R6000 each for these: Galaxy Note 2 - BFore

At first, we thought they were too big. Then, because we do the online marketing for BFore, we saw firsthand the phenomenal reaction to that special on MyBroadband and Carbonite. At first, we resisted the urge, but eventually got round to watching a few reviews of the Note 2...

2 hours and a major dent in our bank balance later, we are now expecting 2 of the devices to arrive on our doorsteps this week.

The problem is, this seems to happen far too often.

What do you do to resist the CUD bug?

It's quite easy actually, a wife, 2 kids, 2 dogs, 4 cats, 2 cockatiels, a house, 2 cars, machines to pay off, staff, and and and and and and and.....

....oh, and don't forget beer, lots and lots of beer (for medicinal purpuses only to nudge the mind up when the nose sinks deep below the water)

Do not suffer from it at all. Last year I "upgraded" my phone as the alarm clock stopped working on the old one. It was a big upgrade, went from a black & white to a colour screen!

Blurock thanks for that. Yes I am young at 50, but thro the years have tried to keep up with technology. I do not want to get left behind with computers, cell phones etc.

People with a high IQ is said to like gadgets and technical stuff. So if we are so darn clever, why does our grandchildren have to show us how to operate the VCR?

Because your grandkids are too young to realize the limitations of their IQ

Because things like the VCR and the HI-Fi are things our brains dont need to remember. You just need to know where the PLAY button is and perhaps the record button

I dont suffer from CUD, but I think I suffer THD(tech hoarding Disorder) . If I see some old computer or laptop, I just have to have it, I paid the price of a brand new laptop for an old Macintosh G3. I prefer to see what I can do with old technology, how I can make it work for me. More and more I am finding that the new tech items are taking away our ability to manipulate them. First they took away the floppy, and now I see on the ipad one cant even plug in a flash drive. I see the need for upgrades, but not the need for upgrades at users expense. In this day and age the brand makers are in a hurry to send product to market even it is not working the best, I guess to take advantage of those suffering from CUD. The user ends up paying internet time for firmware upgrades and bug fixes. Give the new model a year in the market and then buy it, it will be cheaper and most of the bugs will be sorted out.
