Canon SX510 HS Digital Camera (Bridge)

One strange thing about that Sony. They used to (and still do in most of their cams) use Carl-Zeis lenses (almost as good as the Leica's in the Panasonics), but this camera states quite clearly it's using a "Sony" lens - perhaps Zeis simply didn't want their name on it (too bleeding edge for them).

Though it's old, I'd prefer a FZ200 instead, if I was buying a new one.

The more I look around and the more I research, the more confused I get

Had a look at the sx50 & sx510 in store, both are good cameras. The only thing that does concern me with both is the battery life. Both seem to be on the lower end.

I am still looking at getting a smaller sized camera that was my main reason for looking at the sx510.

I also came across a compact sony wx300 - it only has 20x zoom but it the smallest and lightest in the 20x zoom range. What I do like is the battery is rated at double the shots of the sx510 & sx50 - any thoughts on this camera?

when the review of the sx50 says that the camera is slow. What do they mean by that? The time between photos can be taken?

Generally they mean stuff like aperture auto-adjust and auto focus. In this case however I think they mean both - this listed as cons:

• Slow max framerate of ~1fps with AF (but increasing to 2fps with AF/AE lock and 12.8fps in High Speed Burst HQ mode)
• Lens is on the slow side (in terms of maximum aperture); tripod almost a necessity when shooting at 50X zoom
