Congratulations Telkom - we can't send emails

As I post this, anyone using Telkom as an ISP is not able to send outgoing emails.
Even if you are not using their mail server.

Telkom is aware of the problem, and currently have no idea when it will be resolved.

I don't know if the problem extends to all ADSL lines, or only ones where Telkom is the ISP.

I've tested via Vodacom, and there's no problem there. The emails go out just fine.

Seems to be only with Telkom as the ISP, we can send just fine.
If you say that Vodacom is working, you can try changing your outgoing (SMTP) server in Outlook to smtp.vodacom.co.za in your primary email account, it will work even over ADSL.

In theory, we're connecting to our own smtp server, so changing the smtp server to Vodacom wouldn't help

I've just switched the network to connect via Vodacom.

Thank goodness for having backup connection systems in place.

That's one if the reasons why I switched to web-based Gmail years ago - no ISP issues ever...

Just done a test, and it seems Telkom ISP has solved their problem.

Thanks for those suggestions. I didn't know we'd got to the stage of getting free accounts nowadays.

The reason I have Vodacom as backup is sometimes the copper disappears - then no amount of ISP options over ADSL helps

I do have an Afrihost mifi device too - it kept me online for three days recently when a card blown and the ADSL line went down....

You can sign up for a free Afrihost or Axxess account 24/7/365...
