    Dell laptop

    Hi,
This might seem like a stupid question, but could anyone tell me how do I see if num-lock is on, on my new Dell laptop (Latitude E5540). There is no "light" that goes on like my old Acer used to have...?

    thanks.

Hard for us to troubleshoot without seeing the laptop, normally there are indicator lights above the keyboard...

Some laptops have a light in the keyboard keys press caps lock and see if there is a light there

My Acer doesn't have lights either. When I press Numlock a lock with a 1 appears on the lower middle of the screen. The lock is open if it is off and closed when it is on. The same goes for Caps lock (A) and Scroll lock (down arrow).

I think Dell forgot about this key... my Caps Lock has a small white light on the key, but nothing appears anywhere for num-lock....
            thanks for all the input!

Try downloading a free program called "TrayStatus" by Binary Fortress Software. It is a very small program (631kb) which allows you to select the status of various keys you would like to display in the toolbar as being on or off.

I have used it for about 6 months and find it very helpful.

                Hello Mike,
Thanks for that - I've just down loaded it and can see the "green" 1 in my toolbar!!
