    My latest adsl speeds

Am I the only one here that has adsl speed issues?

I am with Axxess and have been fighting with them for the past 6 weeks, which is when things started to get bad. This is not the first time.

We have Telkom here - who found nothing. We have done the router tests etc.
Axxess are blaming me the router and telkom and I say its an Axxess problem.
The speed is fine over the weekends - usually about a 19ms latency and 8.7Mbps download speed.
Look at this mornings offerings - 610ms with a .24 speed - the upload speed is more.
During the week its a pain - I cannot get anything done.

Anybody have some ideas......yes I know move would be the best one - but to where?

    Can it be your hardware?

A lot of people i know switched to Telkom and have no problem and get even better speeds then what i do.

I think Axxess may need to check things on there side. Over all Telkom is giving a good service both on ADSL and 3G.

No you are not the only one - ADSL is crap. After going thro quite a lot of other service providers I ended up with 3G 8ta. Apparently nothing else works in our area. *ta works like a bomb - getting up to 10mps download speeds.

I was told that I was too far from the Telkom exchange - that is why the speed was so crap ! - Go figure - they install it and then tell me I am too far.

I was having the same with Afrihost. Then took out an account with vox 100GB a month and it was much better. I still use afrihost in the office and can't complain as the line syncs at 7mb. At home there is no buffering on Netflix now.

I am gobsmacked by this latest test. Well done Afrihost.

I have noted that some sites just simply take long to load, unfortunately THEFORUMSA is one of them. I have noted that even FNB takes long to load a new page.

            The way I understand it:-
Axxess is owned by Afrihost - they use the MTN network/backbone - dead slow and oversubscribed
I have tried Cybersmart and WebAfrica with no joy
Ex IS management it seems is now running afrihost
I am not sure where Vox sits in this dismal picture but could be in my new short list
            All using telkom network.

Anybody using Mweb adsl? Maybe a little more expensive but is this an option?

I got the Vox 100GB last month at 50% off I see now they have a 300 GB package at 50% off. Can't you get 1 gb free packages from most ISPs and just test those.

Is this the speed you get via WiFi or Ethernet?

The reason I ask about WiFi is because I found that if my router is on the same channel as many other routers the speed is $h1t because they all try to talk over one another. I use a Android tool "WiFi Analyzer" that shows all the routers on all the available channels. If you find that you are on the same channel as many others then find a nice clean channel and set your router to that channel....then of course restart and reconnect.

                              I am in Durban.
Use ethernet to my main machines and wifi to my laptop and guests machines. I do not notice much speed difference on my laptop.

I have played with the channel settings cause I also have interference from my security beams which are wireless. Keep coming back to the auto setting there as it seems to work the best - does not seem to be an issue.

I am considering iBurst uncap as i am capped at the moment.
I heard that Multi Source bought iBurst not for iBurst but to re-utilise the frequency ranges that they have the licences for. So not sure if iBurst has a future?

Message from Axxess late yesterday -
We are glad to let you know that our Network Engineers have managed to free up more capacity on the network - thus improving network performance during peak periods.
So they finally admit they have a problem......Today my line is better - not the greatest but at least I can send this out without having to wait forever or re-type it as the line goes down.
