    Printer Recommendation

    Looking for a printer recommendation.

Black & White, to print +-500 pages a month, scanner, wifi connection.

Must be economical ink cost wise - preferbally to purchase from a easy to access retailer...

    Thanks,

I would recommend an Epson ITS printer, if you print almost daily. If you don't print often the heads clog and if you can't clean them, with the utility, then it is normally cheaper to replace the printer than the print head. Otherwise a laser printer for which you get decent generic cartridges.
Our ITS printers work every day and the only weak point is clogging heads. Incredible connection do sell them as well as takealot and most computer stores.
Only stress when you can change the outcome!

We use a Canon Laser printer i-sensys MF217W (MF=Multifunction ... Fax/Scan/Copy/Print) which also has WiFi function.
      We bought it from Makro.
Original Cartridges are a bit pricey, but last quite a long time. We have been very happy with it.

Thanks guys, I have a Canon MB2040 which is giving me issues (Error B504) which seems to be printer head problems.

Currently don't print everyday - however will be printing often soon.

Having a look at the retail stores - keeping an eye for spring specials

If mainly black & white I would stick with a laser printer.
Also before purchasing ask about toner pricing, original vs generic & page yield.
So you can see what your cash outlay will be looking like.
Finally comes down to personal preference, I've been using HP since... forever & still do.

            Thanks,
You can try a Canon MF237W. It uses a toner, very economical. Can scan, fax, copy and print and also does wireless printing.

Have a look at Brother DCP-1618W. Wifi connection and scanner supported, separate cartridge and toner saves ink.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I actually managed to get the printer to work after searching abit on the net. It seems that some times the printer does not read the ink levels correctly, so even though the ink has run out it registers as the cartridges are still fine and gives an error. So what happens is the printer does not give you an option to install new ink cartridges - so I found a hack on YouTube to physically move the printer head and install new cartridges by moving around some gears inside the printer... Found 3 of the 4 empty - replaced them and the printer works... Thanks again... hope this will help someone with similar problems...

Is there so much need for it to be wi-fi ? I honestly don't know where the progress now, but I still have my old multifunctional device Samsung, which will be 10 years old this December and it works just fine, obviously not for 500 pages per month, but it have printer, scanner and copy abilities at once, no wi-fi though LOL. I am still not sure if they produce them now, but I bet they do. It was under $150 or so probably.

I absolutely agree. The price of the printer is of no concern. Printer companies sell ink, not printers. Enquire about the yield per page and cost of replacements (toner or cartridges). I use only HP products as it has given me good service for more than 20 years. There are generic products available at less than 1/2 the price, but check with the ink supplier as not all the models are compatible.

A couple of months ago I bought a Pantum P3500DW, almost as a joke.. the thing is absolutely awesome and a high yield toner cartridge is available too. I bought it as a standby for a big Brother colour laser, but I now use it by choice because it never misses a beat (as long as there is no colour involved.)

It currently costs between R1300 and R1700 with the standard cartridge and is better than 30 pages per minute... page 1 is a schlep because it goes into sleep mode after about 30 seconds.
