    Blocking Ads on websites

well, I'm sure many of you have at least experienced one ad suddenly popping up flashing you're the 9999999999999th person to visit the site, come claim your prize.
well, thought I'd give some info for those suffering the onslaught and wanting it to stop =P

if you don't mind seeing the occasional still image advertising something, then it is best to just not install flash player (some sites require it, such as youtube), because that's where most of the presentation type ads (rollover to see this, animated ads, dodgy pop ups asking if you want to take the survey) are found. if you can run two browsers (like firefox and internet explorer), then even better.

HOWEVER if you want them gone from your screen, there are two things you need to do.
    first off, is download firefox.
this is a web browser that boasts faster javascript and page load times, and is generally pretty good. the key thing about firefox is it allows for "add-ons" that alter or show information. one of these add-ons is called addblock plus. it blocks all those annoying ads on the screen so you don't have to be bombarded by 100 "what is your IQ" messages every so often.

    hope this helps

I set IE to block pop-ups. In-page ads I'll live with; it's what finances a big chunk of the web's content. But I draw the line at pop-ups and pop-unders.

if IE bothered to have free add-ons, I probably would be using them a lot more.
