UK broadband 'not fit' for future

read through the article and find the diagram where it says our internet is "below needs for today" not just below future needs, below for TODAY.

It's honestly time we stop this "third world" sob story and start providing the AVAILABLE technologies.

It is interesting to know that South Africa is a parasite driven country. Telkom has been sucking there customers dry for a long time now. However all our Telecommunications networks providers have done the same.

So basically we are pumping Billions into companies that doesn’t give a damn. This is also not new because our communications structure is based on profit only scenarios.

I don’t see any proper technological development in our country “like making our own computers, CPU, GPU and other basic computer components. All this stuff gets imported thus we don’t do any kind of real “Development” and this is more than a loss for our people it is a financial loss for our country.

When you look at how much we actually pay for things like the internet one would expect “the best” But no, we get crappy stuff because the Communication industry thinks “we don’t know any better” So based on these facts South Africa will bite the techno dust soon.

generally, we don't know any better. there are a very priveleged few that even have conectivity, let alone know there is something better.

Communications has HEAVY government investment. some internet companies (such as sentech) have a 100% government investment. We're most likely stuck because of that (because we're still stuck in the past).

In general one can point out that government is in control of the communications industry. Thus the government can make sure their investments grow. We cannot blame them for that however we can ask why our systems are so “basic” because the money generated can easily upgrade our systems.

Now we don’t see this happening because they want to make money and spend as little as possible. Perhaps if we start using pigeons to deliver large amounts of data things may change. The truth is we are paying for these systems and we don’t get anything at all, so why use them. Fact is if you cut the money flow they will have to change the face of the industry forcing them to provide cheaper faster internet and other communications products. Right now no one can touch them and they know it.

So perhaps hand to hand delivery systems “as stupid as it may sound” may be our only alternative.

Good grief - we're second last. Damn near the worst of 66 countries surveyed. I knew we weren't good, but that bad?

Maybe market penetration has something to do with that, but surely it's also a problem elsewhere too.

Reading between the lines, it seems our problem is a lack of competition - a situation engineered by the state. So yes, it seems fair enough to blame government for this.

BTW I ran the speedtest software for three months a while ago. The number of times it timed out (couldn't get a reading) over V3G was horrific. Telkom ADSL faired better.
