Sound Card Trouble.

Well right now I am so irritated I can probably just take this computer and set it on fire. The problem is; every time you open a window or just scroll down a webpage my music becomes choppy and it is just enough to irritate me to the point where I feel I can explode. This also happens when I open a new program or multitask between programs even if I type to fast on my keyboard it starts messing around with the sound.

I did everything short of a format and nothing helps I think it might be a good old Vista bug that is now showing its ugly head. I am formatting my PC now and if it continues I am setting it on fire... No joke I will burn it to a crisp because this slight irritation is enough to drive a person bonkers.

Probably background processes tying up the ram or processor. Check the task manager for likely culprits.

I like Daves theory, sounds like insufficient resources. Try opening a run box and type in 'msconfig' without the ' marks. In the start up tab stop anything unnecessary from starting up. Check for any suspect looking services whilst you're in there. Reboot and tick the 'don't show this again' box if you get a warning screen.

Edit You'll probably need to be logged on as a true administrator in Vista to do this.

Did exactly that this morning and disabled a few more “services” that I deemed safe to disable and my windows is back to normal “to a degree” think I am going to run a registry cleaner program just to make sure that there isn’t any problems.

Thankfully Blue Oyster Cult is crystal clear again.

I would try to narrow down which service is causing the problem, some of the services are essential for normal operation. If you find later that a printer or some progarm isn't working you might need to restart these services you've just disabled.

It's not uncommon for malicious scripts to create and run a service. You should do a full AV scan in safe mode or from a live CD and check for spyware/malware for good measure.....and whatever you do don't fear the reaper.

My AV is running constantly and does a full scan twice a day, it is also up to date and fully licensed “well it is freeware” But sadly I think the problem might be related to my OS and not just services. I did a scan and repair using my original disk and even did a reinstall but with all this done I still got the message that the OS was unable to repair a few files.

So formatting and re activation of my software is now in my immediate future. I am just in the process of backing up and scanning my backups for possible infections. Well I am planning on ghosting the partition after activation so that I can skip it next time around.

Edit: I am running some additional software now like “Advanced System Care” and see what it has to say before I format

All micr0s0ft software seems to have a 'halflife' where it will run reasonably well for six months then it's progressively downhill from there in when it comes to speed and stability. I usually work on reinstalling all my Windows pc's to a clean partition every year as a matter of course. I also avoid registry optimisers or cleaners like the plague, they can be dangerous.

Instead of ghosting the partition you can also use vmware and run a virtual machine within Windows which you can just dump if it becomes corrupt or unstable..

Well if anything Microsoft is responsible for my rapid aging. There OS troubles just sucks the life right out of me. Backing up is a slow process but our municipality thought to make my life more interesting by cutting our power at 2 hour intervals and yesterday we sat without power for early morning till late. Also no refuse collection so the “strike it seems is till happening” or something is really wrong thus I cannot set my computer on fire and dispose of it and I risk seeing it outside rusting away slowly irritating me for the last time...
