I need somebody to write an application

I need a programmer to write a web app for me running on MySQLor some DB - just something to do some calcs @ stuff.

- this thing could expand into something really nice & useful if written properly.

I need the program to do my costings for the laser and I am sure that many other companies need the same for their lasers and other machines.

Any reason you want it on MySQL? Most have moved to M1crosoft SQL now it's free.

True. Delphi & Sql Server make for a nice combination.

We're using something like this already (Print Audit), it saves to our MS-SQL server. It's not free, but if you're willing to pay someone to build one for you - you'd probably have paid a whole lot more.

About using MS-SQL, yes that is the trend ... whether it's good / bad is a bit of a discussion on its own. We are using MS-SQL ourselves, but due to all the hassles we have with MS's servers I'd say try your absolute utmost to rather use a Linux server (i.e. MS-SQL is out the door). We were using a Linux server prior to us HAVING to move to MS-SQL, we never had so much problems with network speeds, connection & access disasters, constant IP conflicts from the auto-assigned DHCP (WTF????). Now I want to pull what's left of my hair out at least twice a day, on the Linux it was extremely strange to have to "fix" something in 6 months.

Only the express version is free, and limited. You still need to pay for Windows server license (R5k+++, depending on other needs) whereas Linux server & MySQL is totally free MySQL / PHP developers are also more than often cheaper than MS developers.
