Urgently looking for MegaRAID SAS 8708EM2 RAID card

Hi everyone,

I urgently need a MegaRAID SAS 8708EM2 RAID card and none of our suppliers have these in stock (any more?). Does anyone know where I can get one in JHB?

OR, has anyone replaced one of these with other brands ( I can get a 8port SuperMicro one right now) and have managed to keep the data on the drives?

I really cannot answer this definitively, I remember replacing a Raid controller and yes I did lose the data but that was still early days. I hope the system backups are up to date... Data recovery is a lengthy horrible exercise of pure boredom.

On the flip side, there are “some” successes where administrators got lucky with the chipset. So if it is anything to go on, have a look what chipset it is using and see if you can find an n different model card with the same chipset?

Whatever the outcomes please keep us posted this is really an interesting post.
