Telkom and the new consumer protection act

(Aneeka Savahl) argues that a part of wording of the act creates a strong argument that a bearer of a prepaid device - who may not be the original buyer - will be able to demand cash for the unredeemed value even after it has passed the three-year expiry date.

So then we can expect Telkom to change on Friday so that any unused cap at the end of the month, which has been paid for, will carry over to the next month. Oh, good.
I can't wit till Friday. (Removes tongue from cheek)

I'm really looking forward to Friday (or shortly thereafter) when it comes to the Telkom fixed line service provided to my parents. Their line is faulty about 30% of the year, and when working is of such poor quality it can rarely hold a dial-up modem connection.

A friend of mine and her husband have a game farm in Limpopo, due to the theft of the copper lines in their area, they have been without telkom service for about a month. Telkom have informed them that they will not be replacing the lines any time soon due to the high cost, and offered them a satelite phone for about R1000 p/m - and NO Telkom will not give them a credit on their line rental for the period of time that they haven't had service. I think she will be the first one in the queue to lodge a consumer complaint on Friday.

Telkom do credit for stolen lines. You need to properly submit your request with motivation.

Copper prices are going to go up and its going to be more expensive for providers to provide you with the unbundled service. That or they will also need to cross subsidize the service.

Not going to happen. No matter what the ruling is ISP's have started changing their legal agreements to mitigate any effect.
