Converting pdf to MSword or OO.

I searched the forum, but could not find an answer. Only MSWord, etc. to pdf in which I participated as well.

I had a nice, small and free program I downloaded, but I had a PC crash a few months ago and cannot remember what it was. I Google it, but just cannot find it. I downloaded it on someone's recommendation, but can also not remember who that was.

I now hope that it was someone on this forum or that someone here has a good recommendation.

I would however prefer to do it offline as I think in the end the result is much better. I tried the link, but the results needs a lot of editing, while the program I had there was hardly any editing necessary.

You can try Calibre which is freeware designed to convert e-books from one file format to another. I don't think it works directly to .doc format but it will convert pdf to html / htm and maybe even rtf which are all capable of being opened in M$ Word. You can use Word to then save it as a .doc file if you really need to.

The full version of Acrobat can save a file as .doc Whether this will be editable depends. PDF's are broken into discrete lines for printing so as to avoid reflow that happens when you open someone else doc file and have a different font substitution. This may have changed in later versions of Acrobat. Any file would have to be checked carefully no matter which method is used to convert.

I think Adobe Distiller is the app for pdf conversion, I'm not 100% sure but it might be integrated into the full version of Acrobat. I would personally avoid Acrobat, it's hell of a bloated and quite invasive and I would imagine that Adobe software has little motivation to be good at converting away from their proprietary format although I stand to be corrected. If you were converting into pdf the Adobe would be the weapon of choice.
