    Heat Pump - SANS 10142-1

    Hi Guys

The question I have is fairly simple:
    1. Am I infringing on the regulations if I do not place a switch disconnector next to a water heater?
    2. Under what section does it fall under?

I have looked through the "Fixed Appliances" Section 6.16 but it clearly states in the NOTE: that it applies "in 6.16.1.1 to 6.16.1.13" which EXCLUDES water heaters.
In section 6.12.2 "Water Heaters" there is no requirement for a switch disconnector to be fitted.
In section 6.16.7 "Electrode Water Heater, Steam Generators and boilers" there is a requirement for a switch disconnector to be fitted (6.16.7.1)

So my question is again where does a water heater and a solar water heater fit it?
    Thanks

    Hi there,

My note directly below 6.16.1 says :
NOTE The general requirements in 6.16.1.1 to 6.16.1.13 apply, except where otherwise required for specific cases.
    Amdt 4

Doesn't state there that it excludes water heaters. Under 6.16.2 Water Heaters

NOTE Water heaters include geysers, instantaneous water heaters including units for boiling water and the like (see also 6.16.1)
    Amdt 4

Hence - your geyser needs to comply with 6.16.1.1 - 6.16.1.13 it is a fixed appliance and needs a switch disconnector.
