    Geyser the culprit

Geyser tested fine. All results good. No problem with element or thermostat. Tempeperature callibration correct as indicated on the thermostat.
Problem is that after connecting the data logger(out of interest sake) I picked up that the thermostat was kicking in too much. There were "blisters" visible on the geyser. Turns out that these "blisters", which have been there for years, were actually tell-tale signs that the geyser actually leaked into the insulation. The insulation had over the years become saturated with water and that was absorbing the heat of the water. This led to the thermostat having to kick in all the time. I disconnected the geyser and have experienced since then a drop in monthly electricity consumption of between R800.00 to R1 000.00 per month. The geyser was switching on too often albeit at the correct temperature.

Yep sodden insulation is as good as no insulation. Any insulated heating (or cooling) appliance with wet insulation is going to cost a fortune to run. It always makes me wonder why it's so common to see geysers mounted externally on a wall with no cover when they're obviously going to get wet in the rain. I wonder how much extra money this would cost the poor owner over the life of the geyser.

I had a problem where a geyser was not heating the water up sufficiently the element was constantly being energised costing the owner a considerable amount, replaced the thermostat no joy, the element was drawing the correct amount of current as per kw rating so I did not suspect the element checked the condition of the geyser, no visible signs of leakage after considerable amount of head scratching I removed the element and found that it was coated with lime,I cleaned the element, removed the lime with a wire brush reinserted the element and problem solved.

What would cause a banging noise from a pressure geyser? Please if anyone knows?

Vieome, a loose tap washer will vibrate and sound like it is banging in the roof.

In my case a toilet was the culprit with the washer problem.
