Should a light with an IP rating of 20 be allowed to be installed in a bathroom where there is a shower. Horizontally it's within 600mm but vertically it's higher then 2,4meter? Is it okay to have the cord that comes with the aircon plastered in the wall and just enough slack left for it to be plugedinto the plug?

If it is within 600mm from the edge of the shower tub, but external to zone 1, then it may have fallen into zone 2. However zone 2 only reaches 2.25 meters from the ground therefore it is in zone 3
If, however, it is within 600mm from the shower rose then it is in zone 1 as zone 1 reaches 2.5 meters from the floor.
I am assuming zone 1.
You may not install the light for the following reasons.
1. Any electrical equipment has to be IPX5
I am assuming zone 3.
You may not install the light for the following reasons.
1. Any electrical equipment has to be IP21
How long is the cable? To make a mistake is human, to learn from that mistake is knowledge and knowledge is strength. -
PVC insulated cables may be buried into plaster. I don't know what insulation there is on flexible cords but I imagine it is PVC.
The cable is less than 1.5 meters in length and therefore is allowed as per 6.16.1.11. and does not form part of the electrical installationTo make a mistake is human, to learn from that mistake is knowledge and knowledge is strength.Comment
