A silly question but are these fused distribution boards (mostly found in outbuildings) still allowed?

That depends on the type and condition. It is safer however to upgrade. The metal encased fuse boxes are allowed but the wooden ones must be replaced. I always do my best to convince my clients to replace them all. With the metal ones you have exposed conductors so it is easy to convince them and with the wooden ones I over exaggerate the possibility of a fire and then for both of them the big problem consumers have is to get the correct fuse wire. With that comes increased fire danger because they use the wrong wire. Scare the living daylights out of them, it is the easiest and safest. -
We apply 6.10.2 as is:
Where fuses are installed, they shall, except as allowed in 6.10.3, be installed in a distribution board and shall not be of the rewirable type.Participation is voluntary.
