Can a 120 volt item be used in SA?

I have just had two Power Heads for my fish tank delivered from Amazon only to discover that they are rated 120 volts.
    Have I wasted R600 ?

You HAVE TO buy a suitable transformer otherwise your device will blow up!

That said, suitable transformers are available so it is not really a big deal. I actually have one because one of my printers was only ever manufactured to run on 120V

Another delay. The converter I have just bought has an unusual looking input socket and the wave maker plug does not fit.
It has a two pin socket, one plat the other more round. I hope there is a suitable plug available. More running around.

I just discovered that the wave maker/power heads are rated at 120v and the converter 110v. Will this be a problem?

You need a simple transformer that brings down 220vAC current to 120V AC current. What is the converter for ??

I think the problem is that the device comes fitted with an odd plug therefore he needs to not only change the voltage but also convert from a funny plug to our plugs. (The Japs have got really odd little 2 and 3 prong plugs)

I don't know, maybe one of the electrical guys can tell us.

He is referring to the little machine that makes actual water waves inside his fish tank

Converter is for the wave makers. They have two pin plugs but I am concerned by the fact that the pins are flat (fine) but one
is wider than the other. There must be a reason for this, positive and negative perhaps?
Then to complicate things the converter with also to pin sockets has each socket hole a different shape.
The wave maker plug does not fit the converter's socket.
