[Question] about running light wires from ceiling?

Hi,

So I want to install new 5FT LED lights in the kitchen, but the connection point point isn't in the center like traditional light fittings, but instead on the one end of the aluminium bracket. The house has metal conduit throughout the house, with the first "round box" from the BX in the kitchen.

So, now, 2 questions:
1. Can I run a wire, directly from the roundbox, inside the ceiling to where the light fitting is - it's about 700mm away from the round box, drill a new hole in the ceiling, and then connect it? BUT, without using conduit for that short piece. The metal pipes lie right on top of the ceiling board so there isn't any space to add another round box, without breaking the celing.
2. If a wire runs out of the ceiling like that, does it need to be inside some form of protection? The cable run outside the ceiling will probably be 2cm or 3cm.

You can run a wire, just make sure it is the correct wire and terminated/protected according to regs, and enclosed as and if required as per regulations.

Make a hole in the center of you new light fitting and fit with a gland or other adaptor to protect against conductor damage and/or strain, terminate and wire to regs and you should be fine.

Thanx, I would like to know what the regs say in this regard, as I don't know?

There isn't any space in the middle to do that, without probably damaging the light and causing problems.
