    Oystercy Box in new Garage

    Hi All

Trust this mail fine yous well.
I am a electrician and did an house inspection in Cape Town.
The Oystercy/joint box where the suppliers and consumers cable joint is inside the newly renovated garage

Normally these boxes will by installed on the wall outside of the house. (New By-Law boundary wall)

    Question
    1. Is it permissible inside the garage?
    2. I was searching in our regulation no answer. Is there a regulation?
    3. Is there a CoCT By-law?

Thanking you in advanced for the feedback

    Regards

    Clive

From what I've seen in different areas there doesn't seem to be an across the board standard for this in Cape Town. Where is the metering located?

      Thanx for the reply

The metering is an ED Pre Paid meter. the oystercy is a junction box where the CoCT cable and consumers cable joint.

There is no set rule for the whereabouts of the Oosterzee box, except that with a new build the city council and eskom will insist that it be installed on the boundry wall.

If the Oosterzee box is installed inside the house or garage however it must be regarded the same as a distribution board.

The box must be accessable and clearly labelled. It must also be lockable to prevent tampering with, vermin proof and must be fitted with a neutral/ earth bar.
