Depends very much on the area. In some areas you can knock in a 6-8 meter earth spike and you get an Ra reading of 2 or 3 ohms. In other areas (from bitter experience) you can install earth mats, copper lattice in a bentonite filled trench under the foundations with an 8 meter spike in each corner of the foundations and strapping to the rebar of the foundations and still only come out with a 40 ohm earth impedance. Do some homework on the area and decide from there what lengths you may need to go to.
