    Old cleat system earthing.

    Hi all
    Some advice required.
If one has an old cleat system where live and neutral are run to lighting points via cleats. There is no earth to the lighting points or light switches. All earths are connected via earth strap to the black enamel steel conduit that runs to the light switch boxes . There are no other earthing points. If a fan is to replace a light point an earth will be required.Where would one obtain an earth from for the fan.
    Thanks

Not sure if rubber but it is insulated.Could very well be rubber. At one section the insulation is giving of an acidic smelling goo.

If you install a ceiling fan you're installing a fixed appliance which will be classed a fundamental alteration to the circuit. As such the circuit is then required to be made compliant by todays standard, not the standard it was installed to. I don't see this circuit being compliant unless it's completely rewired. See this thread for further opinions. https://www.theforumsa.co.za/forums/...l-installation

        Also what about RCD requirements?
