    Female Electrical Apprentice

    Hi

Has anybody taken on female apprentices and did you have any unusual challenges

Looks like I am taking 2 on and would like to ensure the transition is smooth

Yes, I've had two female apprentices over the years. I actively looked for the opportunity to mentor a second female apprentice because the first one was such a success.

I have now had my 2 female apprentices for a month and fortunately had no issues with regards to change room facilities , climbing into the back of bakkies etc.
Both have been actively involved and basically been "one of the guys"
They have handled chasing , digging trenches and anything else that we have thrown at them.

The one big advantage has been on the maintenance side at shopping centers, where we can now send them into the female toilets to change lamps without having to make special arrangements or after hours.

Center management , which mainly consist of females , have also made positive comments which will hopefully give us the edge when it comes to renewing contracts.

It has been obvious that the selection process in this ECA project has been stringent and the general feedback that I have received from other contractors with female apprentices has been positive as well.
