[Question] Relocation of the supply cable.

Good Day All,

Who is responsible or have the authority to relocate the supply cable connected by ESKOM from the pole to the house?
Can a registered Electrician or contractor move the cable together with the Eskom box or only Eskom can do it?

The reason for my question is that, we need the supply in the carage together with the box since we renovated the house and rewired.
The Electrician said he can move the cable. He is not a registered person but he is qualifed. So I doubt has the authority for that.

I've never seen a domestic electrical installation like that with just an energy dispenser and no DB. I can't really advise but maybe one of the other members has some advice. If not you'll need to contact Eskom or whoever is your electricity service provider and ask them.

From the pic attached I would say that there has already been tampering with the meter - There should only be 1 cable coming out of the meter .

I would at a guess say that the DB has already been relocated - You will need your supply authority , assuming Eskom in this case, to relocate the meter.

Ask your Electrical contractor for his Contractors Licence issued by the Department of Labour - If he cannot produce a licence then he is not a registered Electrical contractor and should not be working on your electrical installation.

Eskom will more than likely insist on a COC before relocating.

The DB is already mounted. Only Eskom box need to be moved. And as you can see, the Electrician was in the process of moving the box so I stopped him and told him that, I want to get advice first. Otherwise, I will be held responsible should something go wrong with the Eskom box.

The cable which is hanging loose, is from Eskom pole and there is a short one which supply the sockets outlets.

He did not open the meter box yet.

I go to Eskom to assist in relocating the cable.

And whether that socket outlet point has earth leakage protection.
And what overcurrent protection is in place.

The socket outlet was supplied to us by Eskom contractor. The house has been like these for the past 15 years. So when we renovate the house, we needed the electrical installation to be done correctly.
The box has a 63A and 30mA rating on it which I suppose is earth leakage because it trips the whole house when there is a fault.
And on the keypad, it has "T" to test functionality of the earth leakage and it trips when we press it.

The new DB has earth leakage on it. They said the build in earth leakage of Eskom box will feed the earth leakage of the main DB.

My question is, can't they run a cable from the meter box to feed the DB so they can issue a CoC?
Can't they leave the meter box on its location as long as is safe and meet the installation requirements?

That cable supplying the plugs, I believe it can be sized correctly to feed our main DB.

The supply cable belongs to Eskom and they need to relocate this the moment you touch it you could be charged with tampering and get a fine. The meter should be sealed anyways, I worked for Eskom for 22 years.
