Not the Average Generator Installation

Hi All,

Please have a look at this setup (Attached) and if possible suggest what would be the best solution, if I have to install a Genset.
a Bit more info: No Bulk Meter installed, Germiston Wadeville (If By-Laws are Applicable) 3 x 3 Phase Meters Installed

I had quite a heated discussion with a Electrical Engineer, who suggested we just connect all the meter outputs in Parallel to supply the Genset and then supply the building from Genset. I believe this to be incorrect, but couldn't find the regulation applicable. Is this type of connection acceptable or not. And if possible point me to the correct Reg. that states this. "Show me where it's written in SABS 10142"was his argument to me.

You would need three separate cross-over switches, one for each metered supply...

From a regulations point of view I cant think or find anything that would prevent you from connecting all of them in parallel after the 3 meters.
From a practical point of view it makes no sense.

On the output side of the generator you would need to install another 3 C/Breakers to protect each cable - I would also think that you should install isolators between the meters and generator before joining so that you can work on an individual meter without having to turn off all 3 supplies.
The change over switch would need to be rated at/above 450 Amps - The change over would need to be 4 pole as I am sure Wadeville by laws will insist on it besides the regulations
The client needs to understand that all 3 KWH meters will show identical usage.

As Dave suggested - 3 changeover switches 150 Amp rated 4 pole , one under each meter would make the most sense but you would still need to have 3 circuit breakers feeding from the genset depending on cable sizes and genset size.- At least then your meters would show individual consumption.
