P2 change over switch diagram pg344 Sans10142-1:2020 edition 3

Hi

Who actually installs a change over switch as per P2 change over switch diagram pg344 Sans10142-1:2020 edition 3.
I never come across a installation like the diagram.
I usually find the change over switch installed below the mains above the earth leakage.

So my question is this legal? As far as i can see it still provides all the necessary protection.

I have installed very similar as to the SANS drawing, I did not realize it until I had a closer look, only difference on mine is, an extra changeover switch for a third section called : Non-essential. Thereby I have three split neutrals with three earth leakages.
1.- Normal section for Eskom only-geyser, dishwasher, stove etc. (no battery backup)
2.- Non-essential for tv’s, kettle, fridges and all small power plugs (battery backup option if battery capacity is ok, these are load-shed if battery’s are running low)
3.- Essential for CCTV, Alarms, gate motor, Wifi, lights, 1xTV only (Always on backup)
Very few people wire their DB’s this way but I find it very convenient and it functions very well.

The only unclear part is the earthing, SANS show the bonding of alternate supply earth and consumers earth. They do not show a earth spike which I would think is necessarily if you were taught that all conductors should originate from the same point. That would mean creating a alternative earth with a good earth resistance as close as possible to the generator or solar inverter and not relying on a utility earth that might be hundreds of meters away. Please correct me if I’m not seeing something as I’m always learning something.

It is exactly the same as page 359 SANS 10142-1:2017 edition 2
