    Derating

    Hello all

This is my first post so I shall add a bit about me.

I am a student /apprentice currently working and learning with a company in Randburg. Absolutely loving it. A medium to late career change after Covid initial lockdown when I relaized running the family print business was just not cutting my mustard anymore.
I am also currently registered to write my P1 and P2 in April.

    Now to my question.

We are having a sort of chat about running a new 3phase 4 wire cable vs. Joining it. (Basically the two 3phase sockets being moved.)
I would like to find out if there is a derating factor of sorts that can be used for when the cable is ferruled and joined in a junction box ?
Each cable run is approx 60meters.

    Many thanks !
    Dyl

There are no derating factors to be applied just because a cable is jointed. If the wires are connected with the correct sized ferrules using a decent crimper the connection should result in no increase in end to end cable resistance.
