shower cubicles in factory change rooms

This is an interesting problem.

The changeroom/shower/ luch room ... fridges ... microwaves etc ... shower cubicles all in the same room.

Depending on the configuration of the shower anything outside a radius of 3,6m from the shower head is not deemed to be part of a bathroom

A normal socket can be installed in Zone 3 so if the sockets are 1,2m from the shower head all is good according to the regulations and depending on the actual set up

The ticky part is when ther eis a wall next to the shower compared to the the space directing in front of the shower.

I have never really taken much note of these regs until yesterday ... we have asituation where the change room is the lunch/tea room.

To make it even more tricky is there is a DB in this room which has been there as long as the building and so has the shower ... but not in the line of sight to put it in simple terms.

My thoughts are to fit a wooden door to close in the shower area (there is a 600x600 space in front of the shower) ... which would then make it a seperate "room" ... taking into consideration ...ventilation and lighting ... make the door the same height as the wall next to the shower ... which would allow for ventilation and light ... but confine the space .... seprating it from the tea/lunch room.

There are 3 walls around the shower ... with an opening in the front ... then 3 walls with an opening ... picture a rectangle with an 600 mm opening ... the shower takes up half the rectangle.

If there is a wall in between then the zone ends at the wall and "curls" at the opening

Change rooms in factories ... if used for just that ... as a place to have a shower and change and store a couple items in a locker ... its pretty straight forward ... throw in a table ... a couple chairs ...a kettle ... a microwave and a fridge and an extension cord to power everything ... still pretty simple ... find a small DB in the room which already supplies a geyser and the lights ... add a plug socket and try close off the shower area to createa a seperate room ... apparently its gets a little more complicated than just a few SANS elecrical regs ... time to call a friend and book in to the CYA club
