Electrical Franchises in DBN / JHB / CPT

    Hi all,

This is my first post here - and although I intend to contribute to the forum going forward, my first post is actually a question :

We've started selling smart home products and although much of this battery operated sensors or smart globes, there is also a relay that needs installation behind a light switch. My understanding is that the general consumer is not legally allowed to touch mains power and requires installation. I'm started getting queries all over the country from people that have purchased asking 'who can I chat to regarding an install?'. To date I've really just pushed them to any electrician in the area - but I'd really like a partner(s) around the country .

Not being in the industry - I have no idea who to call or how to go about this.

I've tried to Google and emailed a few, but it seems that they all have far too much business to deal with me and I haven't even got a reply .

Does anyone know a name or company that I could contact ?

    Thanks

How on earth can you sell a product if you have no idea about the "industry" or basic installation requirements.

    This is completely absurd!

No really, how can you sell a product in an industry that you have no idea about, especially if the industry is heavily regulated given the serious risk of fire.

I boggles my mind how people do this.

Anyway, I am just having a whinge - maybe there is a person in this group that can assist you -

I do think that it is great that you are looking for assistance - Hopefully you come right!

          a) You know there is a supply chain and not everyone in that supply chain is an expert. Let's take medical machines, as an example. The person knocking on the doctors door isn't a doctor himself. The person doing and involved in marketing the machine, isn't a surgeon either. Same with the logistics or anyone else in the supply chain.

          b) This goes for pretty much anything. I bought a lamp the other day from Zebbies - but the sales person wasn't an electrical engineer - but it really didn't phase me too much.

          c) Smart home implies app controlled / networking / IT - and that's what we do. We do IT - and we do it well. We're an IT company and much of the company is (IT) technical. In fact, I almost guarantee that there is something in your home that has been supplied by us at some stage.

          d) The industry that I'm not an expert in is electrical installations as that falls our my scope. That said the product has LOAs, ICASA, IEC etc locally and globally. We've been in the business 20+ years and have a (very) decent list of (very) well known clients. We're aware of what needs to be done before a product is here and there's often been 6 months work before a product is launched.

It just would have been better to maybe ask questions

Having an install partner means a better user experience (makes both us and end users happy) and an extra revenue stream for you

I get where you are coming from.

I am biased - I like to understand as much as I possibly can about everything that I deal with.

Anyway, I am glad that you are trying to come to grips with this aspect of your business.

              Hi Harry 101.
              Welcome to The Forum
I am an installation electrician in East London and am the PI for a number of electrical products .

I might be interested to assist in the greater East London area.

I would of course first need to know a bit more regarding your product.

I can be emailed at derlyn700@gmail.com

              Peace out .. Derek.

                  Welcome to TFSA, Harry!
I deal with 2 companies who do electrical and solar installations on a national basis. One of them is also represented in Australia.
PM me and I could possibly put you in touch with them.
I would like to know more about your product though.
