    earth leakage trip on 30mA

    Good day all
I have a house on a farm that consists of 4 shipping containers that needs a COC.
The power supply is from a PV system and the neutral and earth is bonded on the inverter side. There is no Escom feed to the house. The four containers are earthed to each other and the DB with 16mm sq bare copper. The house have no earth to the ground at the moment, we plan on connecting two earth mats to the building, on opposite corners of the house

My problem is the earth leakage that only trips on 30mA when testing the electricity. :-(
Any suggestions on how to fix it or do I COC it like that?

    Hello brother

As far as I know, if the residual current rating of the ELR is 30mA then passing a 30 mA current from phase to earth, the ELR must trip.
For the same ELR unit, passing a 50% current from phase to earth ie. 15mA, the ELR should not trip.

So tripping on 30mA is a pass. See 8.6.12.

    Peace out ... Derek

      Thanks Derek

For some unknown reason I was under the impression that the ELR must trip before 30mA. I did a bit of reading, consult old training manuals and found tht 30 mA is high but acceptable and passable.

      Thanks for your response

      Greatings Thys
