    Old circuit breakers

    Can anybody advise me whether 30 year old circuit breakers are ok for a COC

    If the C/breakers are still in a workable condition and no visible damage and comply to the code, I see no reason to scrap them
    With that said and not knowing the size of DB, supply and fault level you are referring to , double check and do not assume that they are working

    We have come across old C/breakers in boards that when you switch to the off position , don't actually switch off all the phases so you need to check.
    Also some spring type charged CB don't always operate correctly when switched off an on again and sometimes need to be serviced.

    The amp rating and KA rating must be visible on the CB


    6.6.1.3 Each item of electrical equipment used in a distribution board shall
    comply with the requirements of clause 4.

    SANS 10142 shall be durable and not removable except by determined and
    deliberate action. The inscriptions shall be legible and indelible. Details on the
    topics given in column 2 of table 4.2 can be found in the relevant subclauses
    in column 1 and the warning labels shall comply with SANS 1186-1.
