Hi there i want to fit a transient suppressor to a db board to protect electronics that has been damaged i had this component in mind will it solve my problem of blown boom gate main control board blown the fuse completely out of the fuse holder. This happened after power failure from sub station when power was restored. Had this surge arrestor in mind.
This was the control board damaged
This happens when you use a cheap Fuse.
If the current is excessive, the fuse wire explodes and the molten fuse wire plates the inside of the glass of the fuse, which in turn conducts, this causes the fuse to disintegrate and destroying the equipment it was used to protect.
What should be used in situations in which there is a MOV protecting electronics, is a sand filled fuse. When the fuse wire explodes with the excessive current, the sand absorbs the molten fuse wire.
Unfortunately, because of the cost, forced by buyers looking for the lowest cost when buying, manufacturers do not use them, and in turn will sell a new piece of equipment when this happens.
