    Education needed.

So I did a job today on a recently purchased house. Something struck me as odd. I saw too many obvious faults that should have been sorted prior to a Coc being issued. I mean obvious.

I enquired from the client if they had received a Coc. Yes was their reply and they showed it to me.

It gets interesting. The seller is what I refer to as a "slimmitjie". He had an electrician fit a plug for him and got a Coc for that one extra plug fitted in the garage. He used that Coc for the transfer. This proves that the attorney did not read the test report where it clearly stated that the Coc was for the one added plug in the garage only. As long as they see a yellow form, they happy.

I suggested, the client take it up with his attorney.

    Oldest trick in the book

Just like like using the builders cardboard electrician who does the kitchen renovations and the new outbuilding and garage, then you contact an electrical contractor and tell them you selling your house, bingo you have a COC for entire building, without even paying an elctrical contractors

Or install your own solar system and pull the same selling your house trick.

Nobody should be writing out a COC for Solar system unless the original COC is produced - It is a legal requirement that the owner has a COC for any additional electrical installation work and that the owner uses the correctly qualified people to do such electrical installation work.
These laws have been in play since Oct 1992 and any building alteration after that date should have a COC - In my opinion in terms of the law if you are asked to carry out a coc inspection the owner should have a pack of COC's available for inspection - You could then use those COC numbers to cover your ass that the actual installation work was done by contractor A and you are testing that the readings are still within reasonable safety measures

        Say hello to Truman.

The reality is you can buy and install an entire Solar system and there is nothing anyone is going to do about right now. I read threats of law and order and new regs in the pipe line (the same tune has been playing since I started in the elctrical industry in 1982) and yet to see a court case and conviction. I hear there are new AIA's in town, full of threats and imminent cases about to explode in the courts, well see some links.

I can go to a mall and purchased anything electrical item I wish and get a card board electrician to do all the wring and still sell my house

People need to climb out of the little holes they live in and wake up to the reality, unfortunately I dont live in glass house in a bubble. I go out to work everyday and see how it works.

I actually work on site, I dont send staff to site or drop off team everyday. I am one of those teams working on site.

GCE, this is not a dig at you personally, I am just so frustrated with all the bullshyte and an industry trying to make am mark, yet we cant even train people to do the job right. \

        It all starts with education.

It is clear that the industry has a problem and some how they need to find a solution, since Oct 1992, like everything you just smile and try make ends meet at the end of the day.

Anyway time to go tackle all the new challenges for the day. which will include some dodgy electrical work or site with an illegal COC document.

We spent an entire week, fixing a site, to find that the owner had decided to use his mate to do a few electrical odd jobs around the house, I just shake my head and move on to the next job. This is why is is so important to take pics and record as much info as possible.
