    Another dodgy COC

What would you do if you come across a socket outlet in zone 1 literally in the bath tub.

The socket outlet is connected to the light circuit.

It is not connected to the earth leakage.

There is no earth wire connected to the earth terminal.

I have disconnected the socket outlet, as I feel it is extremely dangerous.

This by the way is a property recently purchased, which has a COC (waiting for the copy to identify who was so negligent), apparently done by a company which works for the estate agents. I am hoping its not the same company who issued the COC for this customer a couple of years ago.

What would you do if you found something like this?

What do you think would happen if someone plugged in a hair drier for example, while standing on a wet floor and the cable had a cut?

Report to DOL maybe something would happen, if the ppl is with ECA or some other group, report them. Just disconnecting the plug won't help much. When you leave they just reconnect it! If you can cut the wires in the ceiling and remove the wires
My opinion for what it is worth

Why are these dodgy COC's such a pain in the butt and why you as the elctrical contractor, need to be careful when your customers buy properties with dodgy COC's full of code violations.

If you are like me and you create long term relationships with customers, rather than a hit run kinda operator.

So when you take over a property with a dodgy COC, you become liable for all the faults on the site, because chances are the customer is not going to let that dodgy sparkie back on site. so you inherit all the problems. If you the customer gives you the go ahead to sort it out, that's great because you can then get stuck in and create a safer environment for the customer and the family.

However in some cases the customer will not take action, and also not give you the opportunity to fix the problems, but instead just laugh it off with the attitude that they have a COC, the transfer went through and the property is covered by insurance. Everyone is happy, maybe for now , but in the long run you are going to burn.

This is where the fight starts, that customer who chose not to fix all the code violations (in one case around R30k worth) , will give you other little jobs like installing a plug or 2, maybe a light outside, then one day they decide to sell. I am sure many of you have stories like this to tell, you know how this fight ends. You become the fool who worked on the property and didn't fix everything at your cost so now they expect a COC for the entire property and if you dont fix the R30 k worth of code violations you become the dodgy sparkie , I only have one of these T shirts, but it also cost me a big customer who was related to the person.
