    Competent Person

On the new test report, the section 5.5 COMPLIANCE OF INSTALLATION FROM COMMENCEMENT TO COMMISSIONING that is normally filled in by the competent person has been omitted on the new COC and test sheet.

I have just been commissioned to do the electrical on 64 newly built flats. 5 blocks each with 12 flats, 6 downstairs and 6 upstairs and 1 single storey block with 4 flats.

Must an engineer be involved with a project of this size or do I, as the registered person, take responsibility as per the new COC form ?

    Edited 31/12/2022

Ok, I have employed the services of an Approved Inspection Authority to do the necessary.

    Happy New Year.

I need to edit the above, before I am taken to task.

It's not an AIA doing the necessary, but a consultancy with the required registered engineers.

    Happy New Year.

I'm not sure about edition 3 but in edition 2 of the SANS an engineer needs to be involved.
With the bank, flats 105 units and the caravan park an engineer was involved in the whole process.
Having a reticulation report make the work a lot easier. All the cable sizes and breaker sizes are to spec and you are told which db's are on which phase
The work are a lot easier to complete, sign off and to ensure the whole installation is to spec and volt drop don't exceed 5%

        Thank you, brother.

The consultants will start shortly with their work. In the meantime, from Tuesday, we gonna start with the basics.

The wiring of perimeter wall lighting and each individual unit is basic and we wont be held up in any way.

This is my first time tackling a new installation of this size, so it's exciting. A great start to the new year and I had visions of winding down. So much for that.

When a client that you've serviced for a number of years insists that you do the electrical, you don't slow down. You oblige. Not often that something like this falls into one's lap without having to compete with other contractors.

The client does not want to deal with consultants. He wants to deal with me like he has for the last 5 years. I need to deal with the consultants.
Gonna be an exciting start to the new year.

        Happy New Year
        Derek.
