Hello everyone im currently doing a questionaire for my units standards course and got stuck on a question and would appreciate some help with it.

"An installation electrcian may issue a coc for a car wash bay located 78 meters away froma filling station where flammable liquid is dispersed"

a)No, the area is a hazardous zone
b)No, only a master electrician may work at a filing station
c)Yes, the area is outside a hazardous zone
d)No, an installation electrician may not do work at a filling station

By definition the distance is outside the hazardous zone, so it is c.

Is it not the hazardous location just the pump /pumps themselves ? That is what I have been tought. So and I.E or perhaps a SPE can change the lights in the shop there and sorts plugs etc they just got go near the pumps.

Correct , even the canopy lights are outside the zone

I would be interested to see a copy of the regulation being used for the study material (Last time I heard it was about 18 books required)

You dont need to be an MIE to answer this question, common sense will tell you that if the area was classified 78 m away from the pump, you wouldn't be drive a vehicle into a filling station, never mind switch it off and start it again.

Going from an IE to an MIE is not about a bunch of books and regulations ( you need to apply the regs) its more about identifying risks and potential hazards.

You certainly wouldn't be able to install solar panels on the canopy if it was a classified area
