    Lalela Inverter

I splashed out and bought a Lalela inverter (12 VDC ... 1.2 kva 720 watt pure sine wave with a 50 amp/hr 615 wh lithium battery)

It has a lithium and sealed lead acid battery switch and a 10 - 15 amp charge switch.

For the price, I got what I expected, a cheap home made looking device in a plastic box.

Switch it on and left the battery to charge, waited for load shedding, the power went off, with 10 mS switching time I didnt even notice the switch over.

Just remember, you must press the button on the inverter to make it work automatically.

Draw a 51 watt load (alarm, CCTV setup) I expected it to last a few hours (around 8 - 10 hours)

I switched off the power and left it off for a about 4 hours, the battery indicator didnt even drop 1 bar.

Switched the power back on and left site, 24 hours later, I noticed the HYYP unit had sent an event grid fail.

Checked the power on site, it was an grid cable fault, contacted the municipality and 20 minutes later they had a contractor on site, who identified the cable.

I expected the unit to switch on automatically once the power was restored, which would have charged the battery, then I could press the button and it would be happy days.

Well not so lucky, I can only assume the battery has gone into cutout mode and shut the system down.

Tomorrow is another day, we will have a look see what to do now.

Anyone else have this issue and know the procedure is to reset the unit or battery BMS.

I see the company is quick to reply requesting the POP and invoice number to process a warranty claim, if I have to do a warranty claim every time the battery cuts out then I need to find a better solution.

Anyone else using these Lalela units and lithium batteries.

I see they also have a 24 VDC 100 amp/hr lithium battery, just what I am looking for, I wan to connect it to a 2 kva Must inverter.

Well that was a waste of R8000.

The power went off for an extended period (more than 12 hours, thanks to the failing infrastructure), the unit screen went off, I contacted Lalela support, was told to do the following:

1/ First check the fuse, it was not blown.

2/ Switch on/off button to the off position, and leave it for an hour or 2, then switch on the unit, nothing, dead as disco.

    3/ I checked the battery 1.5 VDC.

What this tells me is that these units are not suitable for SA conditions, where we can expect long outages.

Every time this happens you have to find your slip and return the unit under warranty, until the warranty expires, then you dump the unit or have to open the battery and try figure out how to kickstart the battery.

    What a mission.

The next question, do you know of a mobile unit that has a cut to prevent the battery going into cutout, one suitable for SA conditions, with lithium battery charging capacity?

For the record, the mecer unit (not suitable for lithium batteries is still working on another site.), we haven't experienced any battery cutout yet. Maybe I should just get more mecer units and ft drop in lithium batteries.

What does one do when the inverter does not have a selection for lithium batteries ?
Did an installation for a bud the other day. Ellies inverter ( I think same or similar to Mecer ) no lithium battery selection available.

You will have to set up voltage settings - problem is that you have no warranty on the battery as the BMS does not control
It is not an ideal situation and you need to be careful of fitting lithium batteries to inverters as not all inverters will talk to all different batteries
Before suppling and fitting check manufactures specs as to which batteries are approved for there inverters

          Thanks GCE.

Yep, not ideal. I did inform him, but that's what he had.
Father gave him the inverter and brother in law bought the battery as a gift.

Wish I had family like that.
