What is missing from the electrical industry

I know you thought I was going to say ... common sense, that to, however it is a lot more serious than that.

The shorter the time in training, the less knowledge a person gains, which is why 3 days of installer training is not enough for a person to install a system, I dont care if you are an MIE, it is going to take more than 3/4/5 days to fully understand any industry. If you dont do it everyday, you will need to attend refresher courses.

The less time time on site with experienced mentors, the longer it takes for a person to gain valuable experience, which creates an even bigger challenge ... trial and error.

You can read books watch youtube, play with demo boards and get a very basic understanding of the electrical industry, but, it is only when you go out into the real world and face the real challenges, that you start gaining real life experiences. if you dont have a mentor to teach you the stuff that is not taught in the classroom, it wil ltake years to learn, and there is good chance you going to mess up and in some cases it could be life threatening , to you, or the people where you are working.

Not everything is about a line in a code, sometimes you need to think a little.

An example is a spray booth where lights and extractor fans were required, instead of installing the lights inside the booth and an explosion proof extractor fan, we zoned the area and used the code to find other ways to light the inside of the booth, used fresh air and safety switches to control the air movement and risk. Sometimes you have to step back look at the cost implications, understand the code and apply options which could save the customer lots of money.

It is not a pissing contest, the more you isolate yourself from others, the less you learn.

Not everything on social media or in groups are facts, there is a lot of useful infomation, unfortunately there is just as much crap.

Don't be part of the herd, read information, open your mind and allow yourslef to challenge information shared.

Dont forget the code was written by humans., which could change in years to come, as we learn and understand how things work.
