I know you are going to tell me that there is already one, firstly you have to pay for and secondly it isnt freely avalible for us bakkie brigade sparkies.
Last week I decided it was time to build a digital COC test report that actually works for the way I run my jobs. No clutter, no pages of useless fields, and it had to run on Windows, Android, and iOS.
I’m not going to get into the prompt that took two days of no sleep to perfect, or the fact that I had to teach myself how to build an app, failed twice, and only got it right on the third attempt after waiting out reset limits because I refused to pay for upgrades. Now I’m sitting here with matches holding my eyelids open, but the app is finally live.
I’m refining it daily — adding dropdowns for 400/230 values, earth arrangement options, and cutting out anything that wastes time. The goal is simple: a clean, accurate test report that captures only what’s needed — the DB, the site details, circuits, points, and all the test results — without turning it into a novel.
I genuinely believe this app can lift the industry. It forces proper on-site recording of information and values instead of the “I’ll fill it in later” shortcuts everyone knows happen. There’s even a section to attach photos of non-compliant items so documentation is instant and complete.
Next step: learning how to build faster. I’ve got a whole pipeline of prompts and tools coming to support the bakkie brigade with the real on-site challenges we deal with every day. And if you’re a Python/JSON boffin, you might be exactly the person I need to help with the final stages of the app. I’m also going to need advice on how to make this thing actually grow the piggy box over time.
This is just the start, and every improvement is aimed at making our work cleaner, quicker, and more accurate.
How are you enjoying the improved grammar and spelling?
