    bathrooms and fixed appliances

what are the regulations with regards to a mirror with lights in a bathroom in lets say zone 2...100 mm away fron the shower without a door.

if you have an extractor fan directly above your shower which regulations would you take note of...if the extractor is connected to the light fitting and is above 2.5 metres from ther shower basin...what is the zone just above the shower and what if it is extracting the steam?

i wouldnt worry about the fan as the motor is in the ceiling area and the housing is plastic.if its extracting steam ,its not going to extend the zone,as its not as if the steam is flammable. if its connected to the light then the light switch should be double pole.

All bathroom appliances including mirror lights should be on earth leakage.
It's allso regulation to have ceiling fans on earth leakage.

In other words, neither the fan nor the lights are acceptable.
Maybe Dave can get the table to display correctly.
Pasting is a whole lot faster than I can type.

zone 1-2 only extend to 2.5 m which means at 2.6 m it is out of the zone 1 and 2...zone 3 rules apply.

Almost but not quite, it extends to "at least 2500mm" and then must be read with "600mm above the shower rose".

                      where did you find that?

because we were discussing this issue last week...something else came up...what if the shower rose is 2600mm...just to put a spanner in the works...and yes anything is possible.

                        7.1.2.2 Zone 1
                        Zone 1 is limited by
                        a) the vertical plane circumscribing the outer edge or 0,20 m from the
inner edge (where the ledge is too wide) of the bathtub, shower basin,
or for a shower without a basin, by the vertical plane 0,60 m from the
                        shower rose, and
                        b) the horizontal plane 2,5 m above the bathtub or shower floor.
                        And then Figure 7.1.3

If the rose is 2.6m afl your zone is extended to 3.2m

Keeping in mind that we are in the new SA
I have come across plenty who did not consider the "600mm above the rose".
