    Oven Element Replacement

    Hi Everyone

The bottom element on my mom's oven gave in over the weekend. We had an electrician get a quote for a replacement, and he quoted us at R500 for the element, including labour. Though I'm no expert, I think that that sounds expensive. Could someone perhaps offer me some assistance and/or a quote? It's a Bauer oven; if you need more details, just give me a shout and I'll see what else I can find out.

    Cheers,
    Riaan

Depending on size and whether single or double, the element price will vary between R150 and R400 without labour.

thats why i dont do ovens any more. 1st trip strip the oven and test ,remove element as sample.waste a lot of time at the agents or worse at techsa. reinstall element. if you charge for all your time, they might as well buy a new oven.

R500.00 Rand might seem a lot but actually it is very reasonable given the hassles one has to go through its the same as taking your car in for a service and you get charged 1000 bucks plus and you know you can do it for less but if you stuff up there is no guarantee or warranty let a professional do the job and know that it is done correctly note I say professional not fly by night at half the price as that could become expensive.

Depends on the make of the oven and whether he's fitting an agent-supplied or generic element. Either way though R500.00 is not getting your pants pulled down, as bergie pointed out there's a lot of running around for that type of job..

Thanks gents. I had no idea what these things usually cost, so I was taking a stab in the dark. Based on your responses, the price seems reasonable.
