Reading between the lines, I get a sense that you're going to get turned away if you go to any of the ECA offices (unless you're an ECA member).

Can anyone confirm one way or the other?
    Participation is voluntary.

Online registration is quicker, easier & cheaper anyway. The main problem I think might be getting COCs'. If you can still get them it should be OK.

Quote:"The unilateral decision to move registration to an electrical wholesaling group not only flies in the face of fair business practice but it is in contravention of the Department of Labour's interim appointment criteria detailed in their letter of 1 February 2010"

Seems like mark palmer thinks like our government despite his colour.

          What is the difference?

Why is there need for either of them to do registrations when it can be done online. It can just be left at that with the improvement that the ECB be given the power to deregister bad apples. A registered contractor can be supplied a COC number against furnishing an adress. Then there will be record of the COC's too.

Besides myself and my clients there is no record of where my COCs' have gone.

...and this is the core issue mark palmer is after: him and his corrupt aia can do ad hoc inspections under the cover of "the client wanted the inspection", fabricate faults or twist the regulations to find fault and then BOOM! they have the power to deregister anyone who disagrees with them or does not want to suck their digs.

Now THAT is a classic conflict of interest.

They must first prove that the contractor was negligent.

The homeowner will call the contractor back first because it is cheaper. The contractor will have the opportunity to gather evidence that the homeowner is ignorant or on a mission or if the complaint is legit he can do what needs to be done.

Because of the laziness of people the homeowner will not be happy to get DOL involved. It takes too long to finalise and in the meantime the electricity supplier needs a valid COC to open an account for the new homeowner.

I said so before & I stand by it, bring back the local onbudsman. He got the case settled fast with little or no fuss.
