Millwright, service technician

Hi

I am looking at moving from France to Cape Town; and would like to work as a millwright or a service technician.

After I've read some of your post I guess trying to send my certificates to SAQA is not a good option; especially because on top of the troubles british people encounter, they would have to be translated.

I would like to know if their if a chance to find a job without being "trade tested" in South Africa? If not how long can it take to only pass the exam?

I have a Higher national Diploma in PLC , and a 4 years apprenticeship as an electrician, i have worked in London and got a 16th edition, I m now fitting and commissioning High speed filling line around the world.

I think it s a valuable experience, but would it be recognize by an employer without south african certifications?

I'm guessing it would be recognised, a HND is a HND and an apprenticeship is an apprenticeship most places in the world. The qualification that might not be recognised is the UK 16th edition, it's old and it's not recognised here although it might entitle you to something equivalent.

I would approach some suitable local companies and see what they say.

Yes that what I will do, but what does N5 N6 stand for? is it similar qualification to a HND?

I see you state that you have a Diploma in PLC now forgive me for asking but does that stand for Program Logic Control? If you was it done via Siemens?

If so then why not contact them and see if they can perhaps help?

An N5 or N6 is a National diploma, usually done in conjunction with an apprenticeship and a trade test. The rules may have changed though. You may also look at the following links:

Blurock : Thanks for the links, it looks like N5 N6 is moreless what I have then.

Tec0 : Yes Program Logic Control, it was about programming Siemens and Schneider PLC HMI and also some C++ , but it was at school so we used Siemens PLCs but they are not the ones that deliver the diploma.
