Trade and Industry on BBBEE verification manual training

Media statement for the BBBEE verification manual training

    5 September 2008

The department has noted with concern advertisements suggesting that a partnership exists between it and the Association of BEE Verification Agencies (ABVA) and Transcend Corporate Advisors. The department would like to state categorically that no relationship exists between the department and the two organisations relating to the training sessions on the verification manual.

Therefore any suggestion that the department is involved in the training sessions on the verification manual that are due to be conducted by the Association of BEE Verification Agencies (ABVA) in connection with Transcend Corporate Advisors is opportunistic and misleading.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has earmark free training on verification manual for stakeholders in the near future. Therefore it can not be supportive of training that has to be paid for in this regard. These training sessions are meant to ensure proper implementation of the verification manual in the industry.

This verification manual will end confusion in the verification industry, by providing minimum guidelines when performing verification. The objective of this verification manual is to outline the procedures to be followed in providing assurance on whether the requirements of the Codes have been met.

While not opposed to initiatives from other quarters, the DTI would appreciate consultation and proper authorisation before its logo and name can be used by any private organisation.
