    Foreign Employee paying Tax?

    Hi,

We have a foreign resident that is coming to work for us on a work permit. I'm assuming we'll have to deduct PAYE tax on his behalf as SARS would want him taxed on his SA source income.

    1.) Is this correct?

2.) Assuming he does have to register for an income tax number is it as simple as taking all the necessary documentation into a SARS office and registering?

      Hi TravisZA,

Taxation for a foreign employee works just the same as any other employee in South Africa. Registration for SARS is the same as well and quite simple. You will need to submit a copy of the passport in place of ID.

Thank you. Managed to get hold of someone in the SARS call centre who said the same, but you can never be sure!
