    Pastel Customised Management Reporting

I would like to take this opportunity to explain the value of automated and customised Management Reporting.

Although the standard Pastel reports are adequate for many businesses, there is a lot to be said for customised reports in Excel format. The flexibility and power of Excel allows one to present management information in creative and meaningful layouts, together with graphs and ratios.

Many businesses already do this, but not in an automated manner. The most common scenario is for the accountant to print out a number of standard Pastel reports, such as the trial balance, to Excel, and then a whole flurry of copying and pasting takes place, together with column inserting and deleting, until the final layout is achieved in Excel. And this routine repeats itself every month!

With Pastel’s Intelligence Reporting module (which is now a standard feature of Version 14 Advantage), an Excel template can be created for all your customised reports and, with a press of a button, the reports can be updated automatically with the current Pastel data.

This module frees up a huge amount of unproductive time, and allows the business to pull management information more timeously and efficiently, enabling management to make key decisions when it matters.

If you are not aware of this module, or would like to take advantage of it, please let me know. I can assist you in designing management reports that are unique to your business and that can add value immediately to your business decision making.

    Hi Neville,

Our company recently moved over to Pastel 14 advantage. We are a retail company consisting out of several branches. Our ledger accounts are not set up to show the individual branches but instead we rely on the project tracker to track expenses and income of all our branches. We have the biggest headache when it comes to tracking branch balance sheet items. This leeds to us not being able to pull trail balances of branches in a quickly manner. The way we currently do this involves project synchronization every time and several reports written together in excel macro.

Is there a solution to get trial balances for projects because this helps with management reports as well.

    Thank you,

    Morné

      Hi Morné,

Are you using the standard Projects functionality in Pastel, or are you using the Project Tracker module?

The Project Tracker module allows you to produce many more reports, including trial balances per project, and detailed ledger accounts per project, as well as budget comparison reports per project.

        Hi Neville.

We have the project tracker module. It only offers us reports like income statements but no trial balances per project. We where unfortunate to realize that after year end, there will be no balance in the balance sheet for a certain project. Balances are carried forward to the main ledger of course, but not via a project.

Sorry, you are quite correct - you cannot extract a trial balance per project.

The Project Tracker is aimed at accounting for cost/profit centres, rather than the assets/liabilities for a project.

I am sure it will be possible to create Intelligence reports that will produce the outcome that you require, including balance sheet accounting per project.

Perhaps you can email me directly with some more details of what you require, and we can take it from there?
