    This is what we found at the mains position as the 'main switch'

    That's a thing of beauty. Bet it still works as well as the day it was installed. Where did you come across that?

        In Killarney, Johannesburg. We were asked to do a domestic (I really don't liker domestics).

        I checked some of the other flats, they still have rewirable fuses, no earth leakage (on anything). That nice cloth cable (as I call it) in the conduits for the risers and pretty much everywhere else.

        Those bus bars are just covered in (old flaky) tape

          There could be asbestos components such as flash guards so I wouldn't disturd anything unless absolutely necessary.
